Do you ever wonder why Windows still lacks dynamic wallpapers support, even after decades of updates? The Windows team was reportedly working on dynamic wallpapers for Windows 11, but it seems the feature was either canceled or delayed.

 

In a post on Behance, former Microsoft designer Sergey Kisselev revealed that the Windows team explored several dynamic animations and static wallpapers for budget devices. Here’s what Sergey shared:

 

“A variety of dynamic animations and still images were explored for Microsoft’s low-cost devices, primarily targeting educational users. This work was part of the Windows Creative Direction Team’s efforts to celebrate a new centered signature composition for Windows 11, highlighting its centered Start Menu and taskbar. The designs were crafted to be adaptable for light and dark modes, allowing for flexibility in interpretation and execution.”

Sergey also shared some dynamic and static wallpapers that the Windows team was exploring. The collection features some impressive wallpapers that users would have welcomed warmly if they had been added to Windows.

 

 

Unfortunately, dynamic wallpapers are still not officially supported in Windows. While there were attempts to bring dynamic wallpapers support in insider builds, it never made it to a stable release.
